To my dearest Laurie...

Twenty Years, One regret

Twenty years ago
It doesn’t seem that long.
What were we thinking of?
What was our favorite song?

Things were so much different
We were different too.
We had so little then
But yet so much to do.

We have come so far
And yet we’re still the same.
We didn’t save the world
Or find fortune or fame.

Both of us have grown
and each became our own.
Together we became closer
and made a happy home.

My life changed when I met you
For the better, for the worse.
You lifted and inspired me
And even made me curse

Every time I left you
For the call of the sea.
Your love soothed my yearning
To have you there with me.

I didn’t know it would last
If another you would call.
But we are bound together
With a love envied by all.

Twenty years from now
I know not what lies in store.
One thing is for certain
I’ll look forward to twenty more.

Twenty years ago
No sorrows, no regrets.
’Cept each and every day
I wish sooner that we’d met.

Happy Twentieth Anniversary!

I LOVE YOU ALWAYS,
David
